WORLD’S TOP TEN WRITERS
This is a list of the world’s greates writers according to me. I’d like to have your opinion on them…
10.Agatha Christie
She needs no introduction. The ‘Queen of Crime’, as she is called, has written the best crime novels in history. I love her Hercule Poirot storie. Especially the way he uses his ‘little gray cells’. The gradual revealing of the plot is always nailbiting and leaves us wanting for more.
Personal Favourite: And then there were none
9.C.S.Caroll
For his timeless classic, the Chronicles of Narnia. I wonder at his imagination. He must have had a great imagination to come up with something as good as Narnia. His stories transport us to a new world, something I don’t find in Harry Potter. I know that almost everyone in the world will contradict me, but its my blog, so you can’t do anything :p lol.
Personal Favourite: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
8.Arthur Canon Doyle
Sherlock Holmes is perhaps the best known fictional detective in the world. I am in awe of the way Arthur Canon Doyle describes the methods and observations in Holmes’ work. Some people might call it fantasy, I say it’s possible.
Personal Favourite: A Study in Scarlet
7.Stephanie Meyer
Who hasn’t heard of Stephanie Meyer? Her Twilight Saga and The Host made her famous. I didn’t like the Host though. But the twilight series were really good. I especially liked her descriptions.
Personal Favourite: New Moon
6.Erle Staley Gardner
He isn’t so well known in India. His stories revolve around the exploits of Perry Mason, a lawyer-detective. All the stories are great and extremely realistic. Perry Mason has a distinct style which I haven’t seen in many other fictional detectives.
Personal Favourite: A Damsel in Distress
5.VInce Flynn
Another writer who is not so well known in India. His books are all about counter-terrorism. They also offer us an insight of the working of the CIA and the FBI. All of his books are great reads.
Personal Favourite: Consent to Kill
4.Michael Crichton
The best writer of techno-thriller I’ve come aross. His books are usually about the dark side of technology. His Jurassic Park books were great. His books offer uslots of information about the technology. They contain good action too.
Personal Favourite: The Andromeda Strain
3.William Shakespeare
I know many people will think I’m mad for putting Shakespeare in the third place, but then, thats were I place him. His books have everything. Drama, humour, romance, intrigue. A powerful blend of all the genres make him one of the best writers in the world.
Personal Favourite: Macbeth
2.Arthur Hailey
Another author on my list who is not so well known in India. His writings are about a particular industry with a blend of drama, action, romance etc. Though some of his books are outdated because they contain financial data of the bygone years, they still give us an insight of how the world was.
Personal Favourite: Evening News
1.Dan Brown
Surely the best writer of the modern ages and arguably the best writer ever. His books are very thought provoking and also make us think like hell. They are always very well researched and give us loads of information. Be it the controversial Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, the scientific Deception Point or the technological Digital Fortress., his books make us read them till the end and always leaves us wanting for more.
Personal Favourite: Digital Fortress
That’s it guys. Tell me what you think.

Ajay,
Most of the Authors whom you think aren’t famous in India are indeed famous. That you and your fellow kids in JV do not know them does not make them any less famous.
Secondly, when writing about subjective issues, “know all” feel should be avoided at all costs. (In my opinion, the best …., get it?). What is best according to you need not be the best according to me. In fact, they aren’t. I am not competent to comment on Shakespere. But none of your top ten will figure in my list, though, I introduced most of them to you.
Finally Dan Brown – He is an attractive screenplay writer – that’s all. Someone with your exposure should be reading books like Catch – 22, Joseph Heller.
This is just a constructive citicism. Take care in future.
